Agnes. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 24 June 1972. Shown here looking West from Juniata's 17th Street Bridge are the Penn Central's locomotive ready tracks. In the wake of Hurricane Agnes, there's not one locomotive to be seen! In the good old days of steam railroading, this was one of the busiest places in all of Altoona with locomotives being serviced 24/7/365. Nowadays, it's mostly rusting boxcars, waiting for the scrapper. |
