| Agnes. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 24 June 1972. Shown here near the Erecting & Machine Shop is Penn Central engine #4296 and four more diesels whose road numbers are not recorded. Although coupled to an eastbound mail & express train, they're just sitting there with engines off pending the resumption of rail traffic in the wake of Hurricane Agnes. Note how rusty these once-highly-polished rails have become! |
