Description:  In an ironic twist, this 1926 Baldwin built Mountain-type locomotive is ouble heading through Lima,OH, the home of the competing Lima Locomotive Works. Bert Pennypacker's 2-part account of these exceptional Mountains in Trains magazine (Oct & Nov, 1979) when they entered service: "The engines ran superbly, were not difficult to fire, and were easy on coal and water. They steamed so well, in fact, that no engineman was ever known to have complained about low steam pressure. But they were dirty hogs to run ..." BTW, note the "strongarm" switch control rods in the foreground.A Max Miller photo.

Description:  Chione. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken near Fisher's Ferry, Pennsylvania, on 22 September 1956. The photographer is not identified. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6912, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during November of 1926 and retired in November of 1951 after 25 years of faithful service.
